Freddie Freeman and the Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series in five games, beating Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees 7-6 after overcoming a five-run deficit.
Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit back-to-back home runs in the Yankees' first inning, giving an early 3-0 lead. Alex Verdugo's RBI single chased Jack Flaherty in the second, and Giancarlo Stanton's third-inning homer against Ryan Brasier built a 5-0 Yankees lead.
Mookie Betts reached on an infield single, which allowed Enrique Hernandez to score and get the Dodgers on the board at 5-1 in the fifth inning. Freddie Freeman singled to the center, and Tommy Edman and Will Smith scored, which cut the lead to 5-3. Teoscar Hernandez doubled to center, and Betts and Freeman scored to tie the game at 5-5.
After the Yankees took the lead back at 6-5 thanks to a sac fly by Stanton, in the eighth inning, Gavin Lux hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-6, and then Mookie Betts gave the Dodgers the lead at 7-6 on a sacrifice fly as well.
Dodgers' relief pitcher Blake Treinan came in, and after giving up a double to judge and walking Chisholm, he stuck out Stanton and Rizzo. He got the win for the Dodgers.
Walker Buehler, who won game 3 for the Dodgers, was asked to come in the bottom of the ninth and close it out. He pitched a perfect ninth for his first major league save. He struck out Verdugo to end the game, and the Dodgers celebrated.
The Dodgers earned their eighth championship and seventh since leaving Brooklyn for Los Angeles.
World Series titles for Dodgers: 1955, 1959, 1963, 1965, 1981, 1988, 2020, 2024.
Freddie Freeman was just fantastic in this World Series. He tied a Series record of 12 RBIs set by Bobby Robinson over seven games in 1960 and was named World Series MVP.
New York Yankees remained without a title since its record 27th in 2009.
Congratulations to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the 2024 World Series Champions
