The Florida Gators and Houston Cougars played on Monday night in the national championship game at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, TX. Florida won by two points, 65-63.
From my point of view, Florida was entirely off their game in the first half by Houston's defense. But in the second half, the Gators turn things around.
Walter Clayton Jr. struggled in the first half of the game against Houston but found his rhythm in the second half, finishing the game with 11 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. He also made an incredible defensive plan toward the end of the game on Emanual Sharp. He was named the most outstanding player of the Final Four.
Clayton Jr is one of my favorite point guards of all time in college basketball, and I can see him doing well in the NBA.
Florida's Will Richard had 18 points, Alijah Martin 7 points, and Freshman Alex Condon added 12 points and seven rebounds.
LJ Cryer led the way for Houston with 19 points. They were looking for their first title in school history.
Florida Gators win the third championship in school history and the first title since going back-to-back in 2006 and 2007 under Hall of Fame coach Bill Donovan.
Head Coach Todd Golden, at age 39, became the youngest coach to win a national title since Jim Valvano of North Carolina State in 1983. Valvano was 37.
Congrats to the Florida Gators on winning their 3rd national championship
