Josef Newgarden wins the Indy 500 for the first time

On Sunday, Josef Newgarden wins the Indy 500 for the first time in his career.

The two-time IndyCar champion made a fantastic pass on the race's final lap, passing Marcus Ericsson with a slingshot move that put Newgarden in the lead and held off Ericsson at the checkered flag to win.

He also gave owner Roger Penske his 19th victory on the legendary track.

Newgarden won his 27th Career IndyCar race and had never finished better than third in 11 attempts at the Indy 500. He led just five laps after starting 17th, which is the furthest back for a winner since Ryan-Hunter Reay started 19th in 2014.

Next Race: Sunday June 4th Streets of Detroit 3:00 pm on NBC
