MLS Opens up its 28th Season

Major League Soccer 2023 season starts this Saturday, February 25. It will be its 28th Season, and things will be interesting this Season.

Let's Recap: LAFC is the defending MLS champion and Supports Shield Winner. Philadelphia Union was the top finisher last season, and they had scored a league-best 72 goals and allowed just 26 goals, the fewest in MLS, a record for a 34-game season.

MLS kicked off a 10-year partnership with Apple with the launch of Season pass on Apple TV+ this Season. They have made some previous forays into sports streaming, but this will be the first significant involvement with a league. MLS will receive at least $250 million per season from Apple. The league had averaged $90 million per season under its eight-year agreements with Fox, ESPN, and Univision.

St. Louis City will join MLS this season as the 29th club. City opens the season on the road at Austin but will return home to face Charlotte FC on March 4 at the team's soccer-specific stadium, CITY PARK. The team's first home match will be played before a sellout crowd of 22,500.

In My Opinion, the Players to watch out for this season:

- Carlos Gil New England Revolution

- Carlos Vela LAFC

- Javier “CHICHARITO” Hernandez LA Galaxy

- Josef Martinez Inter Miami

- Sebastian Driussi, Austin FC

- Henry Kessler New England Revolution

- Andrew Farrell New England Revolution

- Jordan Morris Seattle Sounders

- Sebastián Blanco Portland Timbers

- Jack Elliott Philadelphia Union

Opening day will feature an El Trafico rivalry game between defending MLS Cup champion LAFC and the LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

The match could break the league's all-time attendance record for a standalone game, which was set last year when Charlotte drew 74,479 fans to its season opener.
