No. 9 UConn erases a 14-point deficit to top Providence 87-84

Antonio DiCesare

Hassan Diarra had 19 points and eight assists, Alex Mahaney and Travis Reed Jr. helped spark a second-half comeback as No. 9 UConn beat Providence 87-84 on Sunday and extended its home winning streak to 28 games.

Solo Ball added 16 points for UConn. Mahaney had 15, Alex Karaban had 13, and Reed had 10 in the second half.

Jayden Pierre scored 24 points, and Wesley Cardet finished with 18 points for Providence.

This UConn team looks like they want to three-peat. I like how Alex Karaban is a leader on the court, shines in big moments, and takes care of the basketball. They play lights-out defense, explode on offense, and close out games in the fourth quarter when they have a big lead.

It was a good battle between these two New England state rivals, and let’s hope we will see this again down the road.

Next Game for UConn:

Wednesday, January 8th

# 9 UConn @ Villanova 6:30 pm on FS1
