The Patriots had a lot of work to do in the upcoming season to try to turn things around, and Saturday's win in their first preseason game showed that hard work and playing like a team will pay off.

Drake Maye looked okay to me in this preseason game, completing 3 of 5 passes for 12 yards and a rushing touchdown.

The big story of the game for me was TreVeyon Henderson, the rookie 2nd-round pick out of Ohio State University, who started the scoring with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, which gave the Pats an early 7-0 lead.

DJ James intercepted Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Hartman. Pats backup quarterback Josh Dobbs played well, 5 of 12 passing for 45 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Most of the starters for both teams sat out.
