USA blow past Sweden and advances to the Gold Medal Game

The United States women’s hockey team dominated Sweden and cruised to a 5-0 victory in the semi-finals. Cayla Barnes opening the scoring in the first period, scoring her first Olympic goal and by Taylor Heise (2nd), Abbey Murphy (2nd), Kendall Coyne Schofield (3rd), and Hayley Scamurra (3rd) adding to the lead in the second period.

 

Sweden was held scoreless and unable to break through the U.S. defense.

 

In net, U.S goalie Aerin Frankel was fantastic, she stopped all 21 Sweden shots she faced and earned her third shutout of these Olympic games.

 

With the win, the United States will face off in the gold medal game against its rival Canada once again. The championship game will be on Thursday afternoon at 1:10 pm on USA network.
