USA defeats Switzerland to win Gold at the 2025 IIHF World Championship

The USA beat Switzerland 1-0 in overtime and won their first World Championship gold medal in nearly a century.
Tage Thompson (Buffalo Sabres) scored the lone goal at 2:02 into overtime, and Jeremy Swayman (Boston Bruins) had 25 saves to help the United States beat Switzerland.
The U.S. has won just five bronze medals since 2000 (2004, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2021).
It’s the first gold medal for the Americans since 1933.
