Hilary Knight scores a hat-trick as USA beats Canada for the World Championships Gold Medal


The USA Women’s Hockey beats Canada 6-3 to capture the gold medal in the 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship on Sunday night at the CAA Centre.


Canada took the lead 1-0 at 6:43 into the 1st period. Then, Abbey Murphy tied the game at 1-1 with her 5th tournament goal.


In the 2nd period, after Canada took a 2-1 lead, the U.S. returned and tied the game again at 2-2 on a goal by Hilary Knight, her 6th of the tournament. Before the end of the 2nd, Canada’s Brenna Jenner scored her 2nd goal of the game to give her team the 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd period.


In the 3rd, Caroline Harvey tied the game at 3-3 with her 4th tournament goal. Hilary Knight scored two more goals (7th, 8th) to give the U.S. a 5-3 lead. Cayla Barnes added an empty netter, her 2nd of the tournament, to make it 6-3 and seal the victory and the Gold Medal.


The U.S has now won 10 world championships gold medals (2023, 2019, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2011, 2009, 2008, 2005)


Hilary Knight became the first player in Women’s Worlds history to reach 100 career points after finishing the game with a hat trick and 101 points
