Back in March , the COVID-19 virus caused cancellation of all sports until further notice. A deal was made in May stating that the league and players association agreed to host a tournament, the "MLS is Back tournament". Before each team can play they must go through COVID-19 testing to ensure the players' safety. The reigning MLS MVP, Carlos Vela, of LAFC chose not to play in the Tournament because of health reasons and his family's concerns.
The tournament will be played at the Disney World's ESPN Worldwide of Sports complex in Orlando, FL. Each team will play group stage games and the team with the most points in each group stage will advance to the knockout round. A total of 25 teams will compete. Teams will be split into 6 groups. Each team will play three group stage games over a period of 16 days.
The tournament features some of the league's best soccer players and most effective game strategies that you will see. These are the teams that I believe will do well in the Tournament: LAFC, LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders, New England Revolution, Portland Timbers, Atlanta United, and the New York Red Bulls. What are your predictions for the Tournament?
Tune in tonight, July 8th, at 8:00 pm ET on ESPN for the first game between Orlando City SC vs Inter Miami FC
