Duke-North Carolina Men’s Basketball Preview

The Duke and North Carolina rivalry is considered one of the most intense rivalries in all of US sports. One reason is by the proximity of the two universities, they are located only ten miles apart along U.S highway 15-1501 also known as Tobacco Road or eight miles apart in a straight-line distance. Both of them play each other twice in the month of February, playing one at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, NC and the other at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel hill.

They played their first basketball game on January 24, 1920 and have been playing each other twice ever since. Duke has won five national championships (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, 2015). North Carolina has won six national championships (1957, 1982, 1993, 2005, 2009, 2017).

This Saturday will make it the 259th all time meeting between these two schools, with North Carolina leading the series 143-115.

I want to see a good battle between the two schools. Duke needs to score point on the tar heels early in the game, rebounds, and Kyle Filipowski/Jeremy Roach need to shine for Duke to win. North Carolina needs to get points off of turnovers, rebound the ball, and Caleb Love, R.J Davis, and Armando Bacot have to play at an all-star level for the Tar heels to win the game.

My Prediction:

Duke 98, North Carolina 95
