On Monday evening, the No.20 Northeastern Huskies Men's hockey beat the No.3 Boston University Terriers 4-3 overtime, capturing their ninth Beanpot title for the second year and the fifth time in six tournaments.
The Huskies overcame three one-goal deficits in the game with goals coming from Graduate Student #21 Matt DeMelis (2nd), Junior (Captain) Justin Hrychowian (8th), Sophomore Jack Williams (5th, power-play), and the game-winning goal in overtime from the Beanpot MVP Senior Gunnarwolfe Fontaine (7th).
Northeastern has now won back-to-back Beanpots for the fourth time in program history. It's the first back-to-back 'Pots since NU's 2019 and 2020 tournaments.
I enjoyed watching the game; it was a real action-packed game. Gunnarwolfe Fontaine is one of the best college hockey players I have seen, but I have not seen a good player like this since Johnny Gaudreau was at Boston College.
Congrats to the Northeastern Huskies, the 2024 Men's Beanpot Champions
