Freeland leads the Rockies to a 1-0 win over the Nationals in the home opener

Denver Native Kyle Freeland pitched for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic in March. He helped the Colorado Rockies beat the Washington Nationals 1-0 in the home opener at Coors Field on Thursday.

Freeland went 6.2 IP, 0ER, 2BB, and 5Ks in the game before handing it off to the bullpen. Kris Bryant drove in the game's only run with an RBI single in the fifth to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead.

Pierce Johnson, a Denver Native, who watched the games growing up, was filling in for Daniel Bard as the closer, pitched the ninth and got two strikeouts.

It was the 12th 1-0 game in Denver, the 11th at Coors Field, and the first since July 4th, 2018, when Colorado beat San Francisco Giants.

The Rockies will play three more games with the Washington Nationals from Friday through Sunday (Easter).
