The NY Rangers beat the New Jersey Devils 5-1 in Game 1 on Tuesday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
Vladimir Tarasenko, brought from the St. Louis Blues, scores the opening goal, his 1st of the playoffs, and gives the Rangers a 1-0. Chris Kreider, the longest-tenured Ranger, scored his 1st of the playoffs and made the 2-0 New York. That gave him 35 playoff goals for his career to helping me pass the late Rod Gilbert for the all-time lead.
The only goal of the second was by the Ranger's Ryan Lindgren, who scored his 1st of the playoffs and made the score 3-0.
In the 3rd, Kreider scored his 2nd goal and made it 4-0. After Jack Hughes got the Devils on the board with a penalty shot goal to make it 4-1, the Rangers added an empty net goal by Filip Chytil, his 1st of the playoffs, and helped seal the 5-1 win.
