No.16 Notre Dame holds off No.15 Louisville comeback for a 31-24 victory

Antonio DiCesare

Riley Leonard threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as No.16 Notre Dame capitalized on three Louisville turnovers and held on to a close 31-24 win on Saturday.

Irish running back Jeremiyah Love had 11 carries for 34 yards and a touchdown. Irish wide receiver Jaish Greathouse had four receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Louisville fought back in this game. After the 56-field goal made by Kicker Brock Travelstead with 11:25 left in the game, a 24-yard touchdown pass from Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough to Ja’Corey Brooks with 5:17 left to cut the Irish lead to 31-24.

Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough was 24 for 41, 264 yards and three touchdowns, but he was intercepted once.

Notre Dame escaped and won this close game, but if Riley Leonard can keep doing what he is, I believe the Irish will be in the mix for the College Football Playoff.
