The U.S. women’s soccer team played their first group-stage game against Zambia and handled their business, winning 3-0 on Thursday.
The U.S. got on the board in the first half. Trinity Rodman put it in the back of the net in the 17th minute to give them a 1-0.
Molly Swanson scored two goals in the 24th and 25th minutes, 70 seconds apart, to give the U.S. a 3-0 lead.
They dominated the shot category by 26-7. Eight of those shots were on target.
There were some injuries. Sophia Smith exited in the first half with an apparent lower leg injury. Rose Lavelle got subbed out at halftime due to groin tightness she experienced during warmups before the start of the match.
The Americans will next play Germany in their second group stage game on Sunday at 3:00 pm E.T. on USA Network.
